Presenters during today’s meeting of CMS’s Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) have called for a stronger evidence base to back treatments for lower extremity chronic venous disease (LECVD). « This evidence base … is really inadequate, dramatically inadequate, » said Joshua Beckman, director, section of vascular medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. These gaps affect the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of LECVD, whose symptoms include aching, heaviness, leg fullness, nocturnal leg cramps, itching, tingling burning and restless legs.
